Edmundston, NB – January 5, 2012
For Immediate Release

It is with great satisfaction that officials of the fifth World Acadian Congress announced today the names of families selected to host a reunion during the World Acadian Congress of 2014. 61 families answered the initial call, more than half the total objective of the organizers.

“Family gatherings are at the heart of any World Acadian Congress and Acadian and non-Acadian families have responded enthusiastically” said COCMA President Émilien Nadeau who added that these expressions of interest have far exceeded his own hopes.

Families from the whole area of Acadia of Lands and Forests responded to the call. Jason parent, Co-President from Maine and President of the Task Force in charge of family reunions since was especially delighted by the great interest shown in his own State where Acadian family gatherings are a long standing tradition.

The organizers also launched the second call for applications for families, family associations, municipalities or any other group interested in hosting family reunions during the World Acadian Congress. That second round will end in June 2012 and be followed by a third from August to December 2012. A fourth round may take place in 2013 as needed.

During the last World Acadian Congress in 2009, 89 families gathered on the Acadian Peninsula in New-Brunswick bringing thousands of visitors to the region.
